Putin: Kiev suffered heavy losses after violating the truce before Victory Day

11.05.2025, Moscow.

The violations of the three-day truce by the Kiev regime ended in very heavy military losses, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated while summarizing developments from May 7 to May 10 during a media briefing, the Russian presidential press service reported on May 11.

Putin said, “The Ukrainian armed units suffered very heavy losses while attempting to break through the contact line contact during the truce.”

He pointed out that the Ukrainian side did not respond at all to Russia’s initiative to cease fire during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. During the three-day truce — May 8, 9, and 10 — the Ukrainian fighters attempted five incursions across the border in Kursk Region and at the junction with Belgorod Region, and carried out 36 additional attacks in various other areas. All attempts to breach the front were stopped by Russian troops.

“Our military experts believe these actions had no military significance and were carried out solely for political reasons. The enemy suffered very heavy losses,” Putin emphasized.

He reiterated that Moscow has repeatedly agreed to ceasefires and has always been open to dialogue with Kiev. The negotiations were halted by the Ukrainian side in 2022.

Russia is once again proposing to resume negotiations without any preconditions, starting on May 15 in Istanbul — the location where the talks were previously suspended. Moscow seeks a serious dialogue to address the root causes of the conflict and, as a result of these discussions, aims for the parties to reach a long-term and stable peace, Putin stated.
