Sergey Lavrov calls Cuba Russia’s priority partner in Latin America

Cuba is a reliable ally and priority partner for Russia in Latin America, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on May 7 in an article for the Cuban media “Russia and Cuba: brotherhood through the years and across distances”.

The diplomat wrote the article in connection with the upcoming 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Today Cuba is a reliable foreign policy ally and Russia’s priority partner in Latin America. Our Cuban friends and we speak from solidarity positions on the overwhelming majority of issues on the global agenda,” Lavrov noted.

He noted that both Russia and Cuba, like most countries in the world, are in favor of creating a more just world order, which should take into account the interests of all countries, including medium and small ones.

Cuba joined BRICS in January this year, which will contribute to better coordination between the countries, and the association itself has benefited from this, Lavrov said.

In addition, Cuba has consistently supported Russia in the hybrid war waged against Russia by the West, the foreign minister emphasized.
