The Kremlin hosted the signing of a strategic partnership and cooperation treaty between Russia and Venezuela, the document was signed by heads of state Vladimir Putin and Nicolas Maduro, RIA Novosti reported on May 7.
The document contains 25 sections, which, among other things, are devoted to interaction in the field of military-technical cooperation, space, aviation, sports and culture. The document also mentions the formation of an independent financial system and countering attempts to distort the outcome of World War II.
The treaty between Russia and Venezuela focuses on:
- Creating an independent financial and sustainable transportation and logistics infrastructure.
- Developing cooperation in space, including the deployment of the Glonass station.
- Expansion of air service for cultural, tourist and private exchanges.
- Strengthening defense cooperation.
- Jointly combating Nazism, racism, xenophobia and falsification of history.
- Cooperation in combating international terrorism, extremism, money laundering and financing of terrorism.
- Cooperation on arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
- Prevention of an arms race in outer space.
The agreement is for ten years and will be automatically prolonged for successive five-year periods unless either party notifies the other in written form of its desire to terminate the treaty no later than six months prior to the end of its term.
The treaty enters into force upon receipt of the last written notification of the parties’ fulfillment of all necessary domestic procedures for its entry into force.
