NATO and the European Union launched programs aimed at preparing the collective West for a direct military conflict with Russia, stated Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu on May 6 in an article published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“In NATO and the European Union, programs have been launched aimed at preparing the collective West for a direct military conflict with Russia,” Shoigu wrote.
The Russian Security Council secretary noted that these preparations are accompanied by “annoying clamor” generated by European elites under the patronage of London and Paris.
According to Shoigu, the aggressive actions of European countries and NATO’s eastward expansion are being carried out “in the best traditions of Goebbels’ propaganda”—that is, by justifying their actions through Russophobic claims.
On May 5, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that Europe is taking a revanchist approach toward the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany. In particular, the SVR emphasized that the EU supports the neo-Nazi Kiev regime and that the list of invitees to the May 9 celebrations in Kiev nearly coincides with the composition of the Hitler coalition.
Notably, on March 6, media reported that Germany’s future chancellor Friedrich Merz intends to allocate €800 billion for defense and infrastructure.
