Russian Armed Forces strike Ukrainian military airfields and drone workshops

Over the past day, the Russian Armed Forces carried out strikes on Ukrainian military airfields, ammunition depots, and drone production facilities, the Russian Defense Ministry stated on May 1.

The ministry stated that buildings at military airfields were destroyed, along with drone production workshops and locations where unmanned surface vessels were amassed. Ammunition depots and temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian militants were also hit across 162 areas.

Russian air defense systems destroyed more than 140 various targets in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry added.

“Air defense systems destroyed six US-made JDAM guided aerial bombs and 137 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles,” the defense ministry said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 inclusive, in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, as reported by the Kremlin on April 28.

“From midnight on May 7–8 to midnight on May 10–11, the Russian side is declaring a truce. All military operations will be halted during this period,” the Kremlin stated.

The move was driven by humanitarian considerations. Moscow expressed hope that Kiev would join the ceasefire. If Ukraine breaks the truce, the Russian Armed Forces will respond with what the Kremlin described as “adequate and effective” measures.
