The Indian culture has a unique capability for perceiving and adapting European ideas, which makes it the intellectual center of the present time, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on April 4 on the program Conversation with a Sage on radio Zvezda.
“India is a highly intellectual country,” Kurginyan said, and he stressed that the Indians’ mentality allows them to easily comprehend concepts and ideas.
According to the analyst, this country having a great history and a variety of cultural traditions, in contrast to China, has always been open to new knowledge.
“In fact, certain qualities… make it (the Chinese culture – Rossa Primavera News Agency) strategically the culture of the day after tomorrow, not of tomorrow,” Kurginyan explained.
The political scientist noted that, in contrast to China where traditional ideas and philosophy can impede progress, the Indians can integrate European rationality into their achievements in science and technology.
The Chinese culture, in spite of its major achievements in innovation and education, has its limits, Kurginyan noted. The Chinese really outpace many in a number of technologies, but their “passion to copying” as well as the specifics of their character-based writing form a special way of thinking that can retard a pursuit of rapid progress.
“The Chinese are now outpacing anyone in some innovations, in education programs. But still they have a strong passion for copying. Because this is a country of the characters-based writing. Their mind is organized in a way which will become important, if humanity survives, by maybe 2050, 2070, or 2080, when the advantage of the brain organized by the character-based writing is to become very important,” the philosopher explained.
The analyst said that the Chinese philosophy based on the cyclicity of times and on religious ideas, puts certain barriers against innovative thinking.
“The kind of rationality that seeks a very fast progress is retarded by religion, by the ideas of an eternal cycle, and by many other things,” Kurginyan said.
He stressed that, in contrast to China, the Indians have a unique capability to combine religiousness with openness to new ideas.
“The Indians with their mentality are quite able to comprehend European rationality in its supreme philosophical or another form,” the political scientist said.
According to Kurginyan, this quality allows them not only to keep their cultural identity, but also to be actively involved in global scientific discussions contributing their unique vision.
“India is a highly passionate country,” Kurginyan added, and he stressed that the Indian culture is emotionally rich.
According to him, this passion and spiritual depth forms the conditions for the Indians to comprehend complicated concepts and use them in their innovative development.
“It is a spirit of mathematical, technical, and any other discoveries, which does not reject religion. India, and China is much colder than India, is very religious,” the leader of Essence of Time noted.
The political scientist concluded that this is the reason why the Indian culture is becoming the focus of various ideas and traditions, which makes it especially attractive for the integration of European knowledge.
