The arms race has entered a new quality, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu said during a meeting of the Security Council’s Scientific and Expert Council on April 25.
According to him, the arms race has never stopped, but now it has acquired a different quality.
“Now we have approached the next stage, the emergence of new types of weapons,” he said.
Shoigu added that the qualitatively new stage of the arms race was preceded by several of its historical stages.
“Conventional weapons, then nuclear weapons appeared, then there was a need for carriers to deliver them, the Strategic Missile Forces appeared, sea delivery vehicles appeared, and so on and so forth,” the Security Council secretary listed.
