A group of Ukrainian soldiers has surrendered in Kursk Region, citing Defense Ministry data TASS reported on April 18.
According to the data cited, 14 Ukrainian servicemen surrendered to the Russian military. The fighters are mostly between 30 and 40 years old. They were not dressed in military uniforms at the time of their surrender.
One of the captives told why he and his fellow soldiers surrendered.
“When leaving the encirclement in the Kursk region, we realized that we were abandoned and left to die. We decided to surrender to save our lives,” he said, emphasizing that it was a ‘100%’ right decision as he said.
On its part, the Defense Ministry noted that the Ukrainian troops trapped in the encirclement in the Kursk region, suffering significant losses in manpower and weapons, continue to surrender as prisoners of war. This applies to both privates and officers.
The ministry emphasized that the Ukrainian soldiers who laid down their arms and surrendered are guaranteed life and decent treatment in accordance with Russian laws and norms of international law.
