Professor Andrey Baranov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and professor at the Department of Political Science and Political Governance at Kuban State University (KubGU) raised the issue of the influence of the construct of “Ukrainism” on the global political landscape on April 11 during the presentation of the multi-auhtored monograph Ukrainism, which took place at KubSU in Krasnodar, Rossa Primavera News Agency‘s correspondent wrote.
In his speech, Baranov emphasized that the Ukrainism project has a multidimensional nature requiring thorough analysis.
“This project is aimed not only against Russia and the peoples of the former Soviet Union, but also against the West as such,” Baranov stated.
The professor noted that the foundation of this project is based not only on historical contradictions but also on ideological transformations occurring against the backdrop of global change.
He drew attention to the fact that in recent decades this process has taken increasingly aggressive forms.
The professor pointed out that today we are witnessing attempts to give Ukrainian nationalism “an aggressive, instrumentally well-defined form.”
He stressed that this is not just a struggle for national identity, but a deliberate policy involving elements of violence and ideological pressure.
Baranov also addressed the religious aspect of the construct of “Ukrainism.”
“It [the construct of ‘Ukrainism’ — editor’s note] ceases to be Christian, even in its Catholic or Protestant form. It becomes aggressively pagan,” Baranov emphasized.
He believes that under conditions of growing tension between different civilizations, such changes can lead to the radicalization of public consciousness.
The professor also did not ignore the issue of educating the younger generation. He noted that “instilling in children from an early age ideas of racism” has become part of this new ideological program.
“Roughly speaking, everything is prescribed: whom to kill, whom to torture, whom to re-educate — that is, instilling in children from an early age controversial ideas of racism,” the scholar explained.
According to Baranov, this approach has already led to the formation of a society in which hatred and aggression have become the norm. He called for open discussion and critical reflection on the processes taking place in the world, reminding those present of the importance of understanding one’s place in the global political game.
On April 11 in Krasnodar, the presentation of the multi-authored monograph Ukrainism, dedicated to the eponymous construct, took place at Kuban State University. The event was organized by the Essence of Time public movement.
Attendees were shown a documentary overview based on materials from the monograph. Specialists who attended the event discussed the objectives and relevance of the work, as well as prospects for the denazification of Ukraine.
The first edition of the multi-authored monograph Ukrainism was published in 2017. It was authored by the members of Aleksandrovskaya Commune team of the Essence of Time movement under the editorship of political scientist Sergey Kurginyan. In 2023, a second edition was released, expanded and supplemented with analysis of events both before and after the beginning of the special military operation.
Ukrainism is a specific construct created in the West. Over several centuries, it shaped an artificial identity hostile to Russia on the territory of Ukraine. The artificiality of this identity became a source of particular destructiveness.
