Not only BRICS member states will be able to use alternative payment systems within the organization once they are created, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on April 11 following a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independet States Council of Foreign Ministers.
Lavrov spoke about one of the initiatives currently under consideration within BRICS: Brazil’s proposal to establish alternative payment systems.
“I am confident that countries outside of BRICS will also have access to such mechanisms once they are established,” the diplomat emphasized.
He mentioned the possibility of creating payment platforms that would be independent of external influence. For example, this could involve the Russian Central Bank’s financial messaging system, which is not dependent on “any form of SWIFT.”
