There is no point in getting fooled by the continuation of dialog between Moscow and Washington, it is first necessary to achieve normal relations between the countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on April 11.
He noted that there is no point in nurturing high hopes about numerous contacts between Russia and the United States, it is necessary to normalize relations on the basis of mutual recognition and respect for the national interests of our countries. This is necessary and quite realistic.
Lavrov emphasized that trust between Moscow and Washington will have to be restored for a very long time. It was destroyed by the administration of former US President Joe Biden. Now there are forces in the US that do not want to normalize relations between Moscow and Washington and are doing everything to prevent this from happening.
“So we will firmly proceed from our national interests,” Lavrov concluded.
A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in the city of Alma-Ata on April 11, 2025. It was attended by representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.
