Each new generation of Islamist terrorist organizations becomes stronger and more coordinated, while preserving its original nature, philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on March 21 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
“ISIS (organization banned in Russia) was more trained and disciplined than Al-Qaeda (organization banned in Russia), and it was larger, while Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) (organization banned in Russia) is as much stronger than ISIS (organization banned in Russia) as ISIS (an organization banned in Russia) was stronger than Al-Qaeda (an organization banned in Russia),” Kurginyan said.
According to him, Islamists have flocked to war-ravaged Syria, including those from former Soviet republics such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Chechnya, and the Caucasus in general.
“There, they created compact enclaves for themselves, military settlements in the area where they were stationed, and later they started offensive on Aleppo… And now certain territories have been left for them to plunder and destroy, and they are massacring the population there,” the political scientist added.
Islamic militants have actually formed real divisions and brigades, the analyst explained.
“This is a completely new word in the training of large-scale regular radical terrorist groups. In the military sense, this is a completely new word,” Kurginyan said.
At the same time, the political scientist urged to be critical of the respectable and seemingly tolerant image these Islamists portray.
“It’s still Al-Qaeda (organization banned in Russia), these are its people!” Kurginyan concluded.
