Iran must develop nuclear weapons to negotiate with Western countries on equal terms, declared Mohammad Qasim Osmani, a member of the Iranian Parliament, during a broadcast on SNN TV on April 6.
Speaking at an open session, Osmāni stated: “Avoiding military conflict is a rational and logical choice. However, global arrogance has left us no other option. If we have no other way to counter threats and excessive demands, the only path is swift and continuous progress toward creating nuclear weapons as a deterrent.”
According to Osmāni, while developing nuclear weapons presents challenges, Tehran would benefit in all areas, including national security. “Nuclear technology will allow us to negotiate as equals,” the Iranian MP emphasized.
On April 5, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Tehran seeks negotiations with other nations on equal footing and will not tolerate pressure or threats from Washington. He also called for national unity to demonstrate to Iran’s adversaries the consequences of their actions.
On March 7, US President Donald Trump announced he had sent a message to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei proposing discussions on the nuclear program. Tehran rejected direct talks with Washington but expressed willingness to continue dialogue through intermediaries.
On March 30, the US president threatened additional sanctions against Iran if nuclear negotiations fail. He also warned of unprecedented measures, including military action, should Tehran refuse a deal.
In response, Khamenei cast doubt on the feasibility of US military intervention but stressed that any attempt to destabilize Iran would be met with decisive resistance.
