South Korea offers to increase armored vehicle supplies to Romania

31.03.2025, Seoul.

The head of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), Seok Jong-gun, arrived in Romania to discuss weapons production cooperation, DAPA announced on March 31, according to Yonhap.

The South Korean official met with the Chairman of the Romanian Senate’s Defense Committee, Nicoleta Pauliuc, to discuss Bucharest’s arms procurement plans.

Seok stated that he is making efforts to include South Korean Redback armored vehicles and K2 tanks in Romania’s procurement programs.

Seok also met with Romanian Minister of Economy Bogdan-Gruia Ivan to discuss cooperation in weapons production, naval vessels, and advanced technologies.

The two countries recently intensified their arms production cooperation after South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace secured a $0.94 billion order from Romania last year for K9 self-propelled howitzers and K10 ammunition resupply vehicles.

Seok’s trip followed his visit to Norway earlier in the week, where he discussed upgrades to K9 howitzers already in service with the Norwegian Armed Forces.

South Korea has secured major armored vehicle contracts for the ground forces of the Czech Republic and Poland. Negotiations on military equipment supplies to these two countries have been conducted at the highest level in recent years.
