Armenia’s commitment to “cling to the West” with the hope that “the West will protect” is a deadly sickness, sharply exacerbated by the country’s current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on February 6 in an interview with the Belarusian TV channel ONT.
Outlining the issue of the socio-political realities in the country, which was once part of the USSR, the political scientist first and foremost emphasized that “Armenians are different, like all people”.
In connection with this, one should not absolutize the example that Sergey Kurginyan quoted, telling how in 1988 he came to Armenia after a devastating earthquake in the city of Spitak with humanitarian aid and went to one of the families, “I brought humanitarian aid, and the mother said to her daughter: ‘Throw away this Russian junk… Look what nice jeans the Americans sent you.’ And all of a sudden, I felt like I could strangle this mother with my hands. My own hands! Even though I understood everything: the entire catastrophic nature of the situation and the impaired judgment.”
According to Sergey Kurginyan, this manifests the “language of a slave”, illustrated by the specific example from the past.
“This syndrome, this feeling of diaspora, this readiness to cling to the West as a savior is a deadly disease within the Armenian social body, sharply intensified by Pashinyan, who said that there is some historical Armenia, and there is a real one. And now we need to move to reality. That is, Pashinyan began to speak the language of an Armenian slave who licks the feet of a Turk. And as soon as the Armenian slave starts licking the feet of a Turk, the Turk will cut his throat,” says the political scientist.
This is the language of a slave, in Pashinyan’s linguistics called “reality” – “real Armenia,” says Kurginyan. Every attempt to portray some kind of sovereignty here speaks the same language, “We surrender to Rome, and Rome will help us,” but that means death, he emphasized.
“Armenia has demonstrated the most vivid image of this death in Pashinyan’s version. And they talk to Armenia as they talk to that slave. But the Turks are more important, Ottomanism is more serious, which means you will be a vilayet of the new Ottoman Empire. And in the form of this vilayet, they will order you what you have to do. Crawling on your knees and bowing to a master will be called ‘reality’. And this is the most vivid example of what could be,” Kurginyan comments.
A state can only exist in history, the expert emphasized. Otherwise – the result is “zero.”
Georgia, which is trying to get out of the similar situation, whose integration into the EU was suspended after the “anti-Western” law on foreign agents was adopted in this country, and impeachment proceedings were initiated against the Western protege, former President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili, – Georgia “was also on the same territorial frontier”, the analyst recalled.
“This is the fate of small countries within the empires. And the only empire that really gave the Armenians and everything else a chance to exist in the Caucasus was the Russian Empire. It saved them from the ‘brilliant’ choice of who will cut your head off – the Persians or the Turks,” Kurginyan comments.
Continuously in all territories, in all conflicts, we see the same thing – “Rome will never be with Judea,” the political scientist notes.
“And then we can have an integral picture of what is happening, otherwise we will be picking at every detail <…>. That is why I allowed myself a certain genre of discussion in order to focus on the whole matter, and then from the focus go to each point: to Greenland, Panama or somewhere else. And understand what is being discussed,” concluded the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
