The Russian Armed Forces shot down a Ukrainian drone carrying a munition containing toxic substances in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), stated Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Crimes of the Kiev Regime. RIA Novosti informed on March 15.
“Russian NBC troops identified the munition of the downed Ukrainian drone as containing a chlorine-based chemical toxic substance,” the agency quoted Miroshnik as saying.
The Russian Foreign Ministry representative clarified that the aircraft was manufactured in Germany. The container with the chemical reagent was improvised. Work is currently underway to precisely identify the toxic substance.
Miroshnik emphasized that the aerial vehicle was intercepted in an area not containing military units, near the village of Voyevodskoye in the Troitsky district of the LPR.
He also noted that the use of chemical toxic substances against civilian populations is prohibited by a number of international conventions.
Earlier, Miroshnik quoted documented cases of Ukraine using toxic substances not only of Ukrainian production but also supplied from the USA, Germany, and Scandinavia.
In March, a Ukrainian colonel was sentenced in absentia by the Second Western District Military Court of Russia to 25 years in prison for ordering the shelling of a village in Kursk Region with cluster munitions containing toxic substances.
