The naval forces of NATO member countries intend to carry out new attempts at terrorist attacks on Russian tankers, pipelines, and dry cargo ships, Aide to Russia President Nikolay Patrushev stated on March 13 in an interview with the journal Natzionalnaya Oborona (English: National Defense).
As part of Operation Baltic Sentry, additional forces will be deployed in the Baltic Sea. According to Patrushev, this is done under the pretext of countering the increasing cases of sabotage.
Patrushev said that, according to experts, NATO countries are the initiators, financiers, and executors of the increasing incidents involving commercial vessels and damage to underwater infrastructure. According to available data, their naval forces intend to intensify terrorist actions against Russian underwater pipelines, tankers, and dry cargo ships.
Patrushev noted that NATO countries, during exercises, pay special attention to the training of saboteurs. He also did not rule out an increase in threats to Russian ports and freedom of navigation in the Baltic Sea from the European wing of NATO.
The aide to Russia President emphasized that the United Kingdom is striving to hinder the improvement of relations between Russia and the United States, as well as the peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine. According to him, the danger of a military conflict in Europe from NATO member countries will only increase.
He also stated that “NATO personnel are training to use cyberattacks on the navigation systems of Russian ships to cause malfunctions that could lead to accidents.”
Patrushev noted that Russia will not tolerate encroachments on its national interests in the Baltic. In conditions where threats to the security of our state in the northwest are becoming increasingly serious, strengthening Russia’s military power in this region becomes a guarantee of its sovereignty in this strategic direction.
