Kurginyan: Concessions on Ukraine will undermine Russia’s stability

09.03.2025, Moscow.

Territorial concessions by Russia during negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict will undermine the country’s stability, philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on February 21 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

“After all, much blood was spilled. Here and there, but much. This means that in connection with, questions will arise as well, which one cannot ignore,” the political scientist said.

According to Essence of Time’s leader, it is quite obvious what kind of reaction the surrender of any positions during negotiations will provoke among certain groups. These groups, although not the majority of the population, have military experience and can easily be armed.

“They are quite sufficient to destabilize anything… Accordingly, Russia also has an internal political landscape within which all this must take place. Russia does not need, figuratively speaking, a cold summer of 2025 [reference to a Soviet film The Cold Summer of 1953. Here, it hints to possible armed insurgent groups unsatisfied with political concessions that may rebel against the Russian authorities – translator’s note]. Russian doesnt need it,” Kurginyan explained.

The philosopher noted that Russia desperately needs internal political stability, and it is possible that the political forces pushing the country to make compromises during negotiations have the ultimate goal of undermining country’s internal political stability.

“Even if this minority (if it is a minority at all!) remains silent, they will draw their conclusions, they will smirk, they will take note, and no one will be spared. Is there anyone in our political sphere – liberal or conservative – who does not understand this?” the political scientist concluded.
