Lavrov: Deployment of EU’s troops in Ukraine would mean war between Russia and NATO

06.03.2025, Moscow.

The deployment of European military forces in Ukraine is unacceptable and would mean direct war between NATO and Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on March 6 while speaking to journalists.

“This would mean, once again, not some so-called hybrid involvement, but direct, official, and undisguised participation of NATO countries in a war against Russia,” the minister declared.

Lavrov condemned such actions and emphasized that Russia would not stand idly by if European forces were deployed in Ukraine.

He pointed out that European leaders advocating for troop deployment do not hide their intentions. He specifically cited French President Emmanuel Macron, who has repeatedly labeled Russia as a threat.

Lavrov also revealed plans by Paris and London to freeze the conflict for a month in order to facilitate the invasion of EU’s troops in Ukraine. “But once troops are deployed on the ground, it’s unlikely they would be willing to negotiate conditions, as they would already be establishing facts on the ground,” he stressed.

Previously, Macron urged Europe to arm itself against Russia, even if the Ukrainian conflict were to end.
