Kurginyan: US will attempt to undermine Russia-Belarus alliance

04.03.2025, Moscow.

If the Russians remain stubborn the US will definitely try to undermine them, including the Russia-Belarus alliance, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on January 30 in an interview to channel BelTA.

According to him, the US will target the alliance between Russia and Belarus. And it really has options to attack this alliance.

The political scientist explained that, in terms of democracy, Aleksandr Lukashenko “had a very convincing win” at the Belarusian presidential elections with over 80% votes. To this end, he did not need to do anything illegitimate, although he had various options, Kurginyan indicated.

However, in the current conditions, 5% of dissenters are enough to initiate a major disorder “the way it took place during the orange revolution,” the political scientist stressed.

“It is not the percentage that matters but how far these people are ready to go. Currently, they are not ready to act at all, they have neither really powerful sponsors nor commitment to do something. And they feel they are not encouraged to do that. As soon as the ‘take him’ command comes along with some actual support, they do not need 25% to attempt an orange revolution again. Even 10% would be more than enough,” he explained.

Moreover, this alleged 5-10% is available, “and Lukashenko understands it very well,” Kurginyan added. The US, in its turn, knows “whom to tell ‘take him’” and “what kind of support to offer,” he noted.

And then, the political scientist concluded, the question is what position Belarus will take if the Russians continue to oppose the US and the latter decides to undermine the alliance of Moscow and Minsk.
