The USA regards Russia, which is perceived as an alternative part of the Western world, as particularly dangerous, political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on January 30 in an interview with BelTA.
“The US firmly believes into its Roman, historiosophical and geopolitical identity. It views itself as a contemporary Rome, and what’t outside of it is divided into two parts – the barbarians and Mithridates, figuratively speaking. The Romans did not consider Mithridates a barbarian to the end, right? And he was some kind of Greek antagonist of Roman greatness,” Sergey Kurginyan noted.
According to him, today, in essence, “everything is repeating in a strange way,” and to some extent explains both the behavior of US President Donald Trump and the US foreign policy.
“This is the Roman Empire, which views Islam and others as barbarians. China, apparently, as Carthage, and Russia as Mithridates. Something like that,” the political scientist continued.
He noted that China is a civilization very dissimilar to Rome, very different both in terms of culture and religion.
“Civilization is a word that is used conditionally, because it is usually associated with too many content components that are no longer present in the modern world: believing in one religion, for example, but that does not exist; and there is a secular population in very large numbers. But nevertheless, these are some very distant worlds. Just as Carthage was dissimilar in a sense,” said Sergey Kurginyan.
At the same time, the Russians are “an alternative part of a certain world, therefore especially dangerous,” the analyst noted. And Orthodoxy is an alternative Christianity. “It is not Hinduism, not the cult of Kali and Shiva. This is an alternative form of Christianity, a very alternative one. Without purgatory, with a different understanding of the filioque, and so on. And the Russians still occupy a special place in it,” the analyst noted.
Sergey Kurginyan also recalled that Russia adopted the Western Marxist idea, but not exactly the one that existed in the West itself.
“And this persistent idea that this is something very similar [to the West], but an alternative, therefore – always more dangerous than something foreign. Of course, the main enemy is Carthage, China, but the acute sense of danger emanating from this [Russia] is very important,” the political scientist concluded.
