Russia’s permanent representative to the UN says there are chances to end the SMO “hot phase”

The accession to power of the Republican administration in the United States gives a chance for the end of the “hot phase” of the conflict in Ukraine, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said, TASS reported on February 17.

At a meeting dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2202 on the implementation of the Minsk agreements, Vasily Nebenzya said, in particular: “As we have been urging for many recent months, diplomacy has finally become actively involved in the game. There are chances that the hot phase of the Ukrainian crisis may soon come to an end.

According to him, this possibility has emerged due to the processes that are taking place in the world after the Republican administration came to power in the United States.

According to the diplomat, a possible ceasefire and freezing of the Ukrainian conflict “are not guarantees of its settlement by themselves.

Nebenzya urged to learn the “most important lesson” of the Minsk agreements when working on possible agreements. He stressed that “European political midgets” do not hide the fact that they want to rearm Ukraine and prepare it for a resumption of war.

It is worth noting that Finnish President Alexander Stubb said at the Munich Security Conference on 16 February that it was necessary to rearm Ukraine and put pressure on Russia at the moment of preliminary negotiations.

On December 7, 2022, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the Minsk agreements were signed to “give Ukraine time” and make it stronger.
