German company to supply Ukraine with thousands of AI-powered combat drones

13.02.2025, Berlin.

German AI-defense company Helsing plans to produce a large batch of HX-2 combat drones with artificial intelligence for Ukraine, Hartpunkt reported.

“After completing the construction of the RF-1 defense weapons production plant in southern Germany, Helsing, a defense company specializing in AI systems, will manufacture 6,000 HX-2 combat drones with AI capabilities for Ukraine,” the report stated.

According to the company’s plans, the initial production capacity at the RF-1 plant will be 1,000 HX-2 drones per month. Helsing also intends to build additional weapons factories across Europe. The company claims that in the event of conflict, these facilities could produce tens of thousands of units per month.

The HX-2 drone supply follows a previous order for 4,000 units, which are being co-produced with Ukrainian partners and are already being delivered to Kyiv.

Helsing co-founder Gundbert Scherf stated that the company is scaling up HX-2 production in response to new orders.

“With our factories, we are focusing on decentralized mass production across Europe,” Scherf said.

The German government has tasked Helsing with supplying Ukraine with strike drones capable of accurate target engagement from the air, even in environments without access to global navigation satellite signals or in the presence of jamming attempts.
