Ukraine is and always will be a “central part of Europe,” and its membership in the European Union and NATO is a matter of time, stated Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on February 13, as reported by STT.
“Ukraine will continue to remain a central part of Europe, and in the future, as a member of the EU and NATO. Now we just need to work on making that happen,” Valtonen noted.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump made a statement calling Ukraine’s plans to join NATO unpromising and impractical. Trump emphasized that he agrees with the idea that Kiev should abandon its bid to join the alliance.
In the summer of 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he would view Kiev’s readiness to abandon its intentions to join NATO as one of the steps toward a peaceful resolution of the military conflict on Ukrainian territory. Additionally, Ukrainian authorities must not only carry out demilitarization and denazification but also adopt a neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status, the Russian leader added.
