A substantial part of Ukraine desires to reunite with Russia, and many regions have already realized this aspiration, stated Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov on February 11 in comments to journalists.
Peskov was responding to a previous statement by US President Donald Trump that Ukraine might eventually become part of Russia.
“The fact that a significant part of Ukraine wants to become Russia, and that it already has become Russia, is a reality,” said Peskov.
The presidential press secretary referred to the apparent fact of four former Ukrainian regions joining Russia on a voluntary and public basis.
“People who, despite numerous dangers, stood in lines and voted in the referendum to join Russia – this largely aligns with President Trump’s words,” Peskov reminded, referring to the process of new regions joining Russia.
Earlier, Donald Trump publicly suggested that one day Ukraine might become Russia.
