The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran unveiled a new underground base housing cruise missiles designed to target destroyers in the strategic southern waters. IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami led the opening ceremony, as reported by IRNA on February 1.
During his visit, Salami inspected the combat readiness of the IRGC Navy’s missile units at the new facility. The upgraded missiles stationed at the underground base are also equipped with electronic warfare countermeasures and can be prepared for combat in the shortest possible time.
This is the third underground missile base revealed by the IRGC in less than a month.
On January 18, the IRGC Navy showcased an underground naval missile base in the Persian Gulf. On January 10, the IRGC Aerospace Forces presented another underground missile city.
Iran claims that its ballistic missiles serve as a crucial deterrent against the United States and Israel.
In early January, the Iranian Armed Forces launched large-scale military exercises across the country. The drills included scenarios where the IRGC defended nuclear facilities in Natanz, central Iran, against simulated missile and drone attacks.
