Indonesia considers membership in BRICS as an opportunity to strengthen the voices of the Global South on the world stage, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said on January 7.
On January 1, the Brazilian government, which took over the BRICS presidency, announced that Indonesia had been accepted as a full-fledged member of the group.
The country’s Foreign Ministry called Jakarta’s joining BRICS a reflection of its growing role in global issues and focus on strengthening multilateral cooperation.
“As a country with a growing and diverse economy, Indonesia seeks to actively contribute to the BRICS agenda,” the statement emphasizes.
BRICS is an important platform for Indonesia to strengthen South-South cooperation. Jakarta ensures that the voices and aspirations of the Global South are heard in the organization.
