Moscow sees some signs of the beginning of an arms race with the United States, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper on December 27.
The destabilizing actions of the United States are forcing those who have been designated as “opponents” and “ adversaries” in Washington to take compensatory measures. Russia itself is not chasing anyone, Ryabkov emphasized.
However, it has to maintain the balance of power, but it acts in the most careful way possible. Russia professes the principle of strict sufficiency in order to guarantee its security.
Sometimes this is achieved by asymmetric steps, Ryabkov explained.
