Russian air defense forces repelled strikes from six Ukrainian drones attempting to target civilian objects in Kazan, the Russian Defense Ministry worte on December 21 on its Telegram channel.
“Between 7:40 and 9:20 (a.m.), the Kiev regime launched an attack using UAVs of the aircraft type on civilian infrastructure in the city of Kazan. The UAVs were sent in three waves from different directions,” the statement reads.
The Russian air defense systems shot down three drones, while another three UAVs were suppressed by electronic warfare forces.
As a result of the drone attack in Kazan, fires broke out in houses in three districts — Sovetsky, Kirovsky, and Privolzhsky. There were no fatalities or injuries. Emergency services are operating on the ground, selective evacuations were conducted in schools, and shifts were evacuated at industrial enterprises. Temporary restrictions were imposed on the operations of the airports in Kazan, Izhevsk, and Saratov. Mass events in Kazan have been canceled for two days.
