Monument to Stalin unveiled at Vologda Exile Museum in Vologda

21.12.2024, Vologda.

A monument to Joseph Stalin was unveiled on the grounds of the Vologda Exile house-museum, Vologda Oblast Governor Georgy Filimonov announced on December 21 on his Telegram channel.

The monument is located at the house where Stalin lived from December 1911 to February 1912. According to the governor, Russia’s history is an unbroken chain of interconnected events, and each era has become the foundation of the existence of Russian citizens.

“It is important to overcome the externally imposed inferiority complex regarding our country’s history. We must appreciate the past in all its diversity, understanding and accepting its ambiguous chapters. It is no coincidence that today we started the day by laying flowers at the monument to the victims of political repressions,” Filimonov wrote.

Stalin lived in Vologda for several months on the second floor of the house, which is part of the Vologda Exile Museum. Filimonov explained that the authorities supported the regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) in unveiling a monument to a person who left an indelible mark on the country’s history. The governor described the monument’s installation as a step towards a sober and balanced attitude towards the past.

“Respecting history means respecting oneself,” the governor concluded.
