Popular US conservative political commentator and journalist Tucker Carlson, who recently interviewed President of Russia Vladimir Putin, dramatically changed his interviewing style for his recent conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on December 7 on the program Right to Know on channel TVC.
“I think that you, like myself, could not help noticing how the tone of the interviewer has changed. A while ago he spoke with the president,” the political scientist explained discussing Lavrov’s interview to Tucker Carlson of December 6.
He stressed that Carlson’s style at this interview has become very different than the one in his interview with Vladimir Putin in February.
“Talking to president, he demonstrated some ease as well as freedom of a person who is stylish and who can make a display of an extraordinary haircut or jacket style. With Lavrov, he was an official, keeping strictly within the framework of his office, with exact questions and answers,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
The analyst stressed that Lavrov’s interview to Carlson looked like “a mutual intelligence operation in which both sides considered every word.”
He explained that Tucker Carlson, who previously behaved as “a free artist very proud of this status” now behaves “as an official from the Department of State,” “or rather from the CIA but not the Department.”
“It was very interesting. It is interesting to see the extent of change in a person who understands that he has caught God by his beard and he will never let him go, and that everything will continue this way. In this sense, that was a masterpiece of a special genre where the sides reveal their thoughts to some extent while keeping the rest hidden. No show style anymore,” the political scientist explained.
Sergey Kurginyan noted that the interview with Sergey Lavrov was an example of a talk between two officials; “it looked like it was two foreign ministers talking rather than a popular journalist and an official. The genre has changed dramatically.”
“The interviewer apparently understands that it is time for a career change,” the analyst concluded.
