Russia will agree to the participation of the US president’s administration in negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine if Moscow’s demands are met, stated Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party, to journalists on December 12.
Medvedev spoke to the press following negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“If answers are provided to all <…> questions, then, of course, future negotiations with the active participation of the US administration are probably possible, but we have to get to that point,” the politician was quoted by RIA Novosti.
He recalled the statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the conditions for starting negotiations on Ukraine. These include taking into account the real situation on the ground, amendments to the Constitution of Russia, and Moscow’s concerns about NATO actions.
In mid-June, during a meeting with the top officials of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Putin outlined the conditions for initiating negotiations with Kiev. First and foremost, the Ukrainian armed units must be fully withdrawn from the entire territory of the Lugansk and Donetsk republics, Kherson, and Zaporozhye Regions.
Other conditions include Ukraine’s neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status, the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the recognition of the statuses of Crimea, Sevastopol, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia Regions as Russian territories in international treaties, and the lifting of all Western sanctions against Russia.
