MES: Syria asks Iran for military intervention

30.11.2024, Damascus.

The Syrian government officially appealed to Iran for immediate military intervention, Middle East Spectator wrote on November 30.

On November 29, Islamists based in Idlib province captured the city of Aleppo, while on November 30, militants also approached the city of Hama in the same province. Aleppo had been largely abandoned by the Syrian army.

The Syrian Defense Ministry currently denies that the city has been captured completely. Syrian Arab Army reinforcements continue to arrive in Hama.

Protests of opposition supporters have erupted in the southwestern Syrian city of Daraa, with shootings reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced plans to visit Damascus on December 1. He wants to meet in person with Syrian President Bashar Assad and the Syrian Foreign Minister.
