Communist Party of Greece holds a protest against NATO Secretary General’s visit

26.11.2024, Athens.

The Communist Party and Communist Youth of Greece protested in Athens against the visit of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, RIA Novosti wrote on November 26.

“Greece is out of the war! Shut down US and NATO bases! End military missions outside the country! Stop any military aid to the Zelensky regime! No support for the terrorist state of Israel! No land and water for the killers of nations! No participation in the slaughter!” the protesters chanted.

Currently, authorities have blocked access to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building and the route to the government residence, the Maximos Mansion.

“The protest is the best ‘welcome’ for the head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization which is dragging peoples into a new war,” the protestors stated.

They explained that there is nothing “ceremonial” about Rutte’s visit while “war drums are beating loudly from Ukraine to the Middle East.”

The NATO Secretary General arrived in Greece to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, and Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.

Earlier, a demonstration against turning Cyprus into a NATO outpost was held in the city of Larnaca. Among the protesters chanted, “Neither the US nor NATO – Cyprus is not a protectorate,” “Cyprus – a bridge of peace and cooperation among peoples, without foreign armies and bases.” There were also banners in support of Libya and Palestine.
