The actions of the United States increased the role of nuclear weapons in national security policy, heightened military confrontation, and increased the risks of nuclear conflict, stated Lin Jian, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a briefing on November 21.
Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan, representative of the Strategic Command of the US Department of Defense, stated that the Pentagon considers the possibility of an exchange of nuclear strike, where the USA would still retain an arsenal for further deterrence of adversaries.
Lin reminded that in recent years, the USA has begun modernizing its nuclear triad and elevating the role of nuclear weapons in its national security strategy. Together with its allies, it has been strengthening and expanding deterrence mechanisms.
According to Lin Jian, these actions by Washington seriously undermined global strategic balance and stability, increased military competition and confrontation, and heightened nuclear risks.
