Venezuela resents Brazil’s ban on the country’s accession to BRICS

25.10.2024, Venezuela.

Outrage over Brazil’s use of its veto to prevent Venezuela from joining the BRICS intergovernmental bloc has been expressed by the Venezuelan government, TeleSUR reported on October 24.

Brazil’s veto prevented Venezuela from being included in the list of thirteen countries associated with BRICS approved at the Kazan summit.

The Venezuelan government denounced that the representation of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, headed by Ambassador Eduardo Paes Saboya, decided to use the veto power over Venezuela’s application to join BRICS again, just as it did when the country was led by the right-wing government of Jair Bolnosaru. According to Venezuelan officials, such action is a hostile gesture that becomes on par with the criminal policy of sanctions imposed against Venezuela.

The government statement also emphasized the Venezuelan people’s outrage at this “inexplicable and immoral aggression” and reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to self-determination and the sovereign equality of states.

The Venezuelan government thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for inviting President Nicolas Maduro to attend the BRICS+ summit, which it called historic.
