Hackers gain access information on Ukrainian reservists

17.10.2024, Kiev.

Unknown hackers gained access to the personal information of users of the Ukrainian armed units’ electronic military registration system “Reserve+,” reported the Ukrainian publication Strana on October 17, citing the Ukrainian State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection.

Unauthorized access to the system’s data was achieved through a Telegram bot of the “Reserve+” application.

According to cybersecurity experts, hackers managed to breach the Telegram bot, which had been marked as an official resource by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. As a result, users were prompted to download additional software onto their smartphones. Ukrainian specialists indicated that the downloaded software transmitted all possible information from the smartphone to the hacker and then self-deleted. Smartphone owners were often unaware of the breach.
