Ukrainian armed units attack Donetsk with cluster munitions

14.05.2024, Donetsk.

Ukrainian troops attacked the Petrovsky district of Donetsk with cluster munitions using Western-made heavy artillery systems. A representative of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to Ukrainian War Crimes (JCCC) said this on May 14.

“There is information about the attack of the Ukrainian armed units in the direction: 07:15 a.m. – village Kurakhovka – Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 3 155mm munition (cluster) were fired,” the statement reads.

Ukrainian nationalists use both conventional ammunition and cluster munitions when attacking populated areas in Donbas. The use of cluster munitions is prohibited by the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions. However, neither the United States, Ukraine nor Russia have signed it. At the same time, Moscow, despite the fact that there are many different types of such munitions in the arsenal of the Russian Armed Forces, has always refrained from using them in armed conflicts because of the great danger they pose to civilians.
