The General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces started preparations for an exercise to practice the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons, the Russian Defense Ministry informed on May 6.
The exercise will be held in the near future on the instructions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces. The exercise will involve missile units of the Southern Military District, aviation and Navy forces.
The purpose of the exercise is to maintain the readiness of equipment and personnel to use non-strategic nuclear weapons to ensure Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Russian Defense Ministry noted that these exercises will take place against the backdrop of provocative statements by certain Western officials.
