Ukrainian POWs will be employed in the restoration of new regions, the governor of Zaporozhye region Yevgeniy Balitsky said, RIA Novosti wrote on March 6.
” We have more than 25,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war. These are those who do not require medical care, we are not talking about the wounded who are in hospitals. We are looking for options on how to engage them not only in combat operations, but also in construction, restoration of facilities, so that they rebuild Mother Russia in new regions, which they themselves destroyed,” Balitsky said.
The governor believes that the issue of acquiring Russian citizenship by such people will also be addressed.
In late October 2024, soldiers of the Bogdan Khmelnytsky battalion, consisting of former Ukrainian prisoners of war, swore an oath to Russia. The battalion joined the Russian operational and combat tactical unit. In late December 2024, the first combat of the battalion’s soldiers with the Ukrainian armed units took place.
