Poll: Majority of Germans do not want Germany to have nuclear weapons

The majority of Germans are against Germany’s possession of nuclear weapons, Bild informed on February 22, citing data from a poll conducted by the INSA sociological institute.

The institute conducted the poll from February 16 to 19. It covered 1003 adult residents of Germany.

Over 57% of respondents disagreed with the statement that Germany should have nuclear weapons. Only 29.5% of respondents chose a positive answer.

A specifically high proportion of Germans aged 70+ oppose nuclear warheads in Germany. In this age group, more than 70% were against nuclear weapons.

More than 52% of respondents were of the opinion that third countries, such as the United States, should not deploy nuclear weapons in Germany.
