Will IRGC and Hezbollah retaliate against Israel for al-Arouri’s death?

17.01.2024, Moscow.

The elimination of Hamas deputy political bureau chief Saleh al-Arouri increased the chances of escalation in the Middle East, according to the report from the theater of war published in The Essence of Time newspaper, Issue 568.

In early January, an Israeli drone strike killed Saleh al-Arouri, deputy head of the Hamas political bureau. Arouri was in a stronghold in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The Lebanese Hezbollah party issued an official statement in this regard. The Israeli attack was regarded as a dangerous encroachment on Lebanese sovereignty that cannot go unpunished.

“The operation to eliminate al-Arouri, who was a very important figure inside Hamas for the Iranian military elite, can be seen as a blow to the positions of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Besides, al-Arouri was a moderate politician, and with his death, the chances of the escalation increased,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
