Everyone in Ukraine is fit for military service – new bill of Ukrainian parliament

26.12.2023, Kiev.

A draft law on new rules of mobilization proposes to abandon the category of limited fitness for military service in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed units, TASS reported on December 26.

The draft, which has been submitted to the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian parliament], expands the list of Ukrainian citizens subject to mobilization and the list of restrictions on the rights of evaders.

Thus, the draft law suggests that citizens can be mobilized from the age of 25, and there will be no more limited eligibility for military service, as well as conscription.

At the same time, all citizens aged 18-25 will have to undergo three months of basic general military training, and summonses will be sent to them “through the electronic office of conscripts, persons liable for military duty and reservists or by e-mail.”

Accordingly, all those who do not respond to these summonses will be considered evaders from military registration and service and will be severely restricted in their rights.

In particular, the new rules propose to prohibit evaders not only to travel abroad, but also:
– dispose of money and other valuables,
– to carry out transactions with movable and immovable property,
– receive benefits and public services in general,
– take out loans and credits,
– obtain a driver’s license,
– drive private vehicles.
