The manuals on warfare developed for the armies of NATO countries have turned out to be unsuitable in the conditions of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, the Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (SNBO) Aleksey Danilov told the British television channel BBC on December 12.
“Old textbooks on war, including NATO textbooks, should be sent back to the archives,” he said.
Danilov believed that the world has not yet witnessed armed conflicts like the one between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, the situation on the front is very difficult. The SNBO Secretary also admitted that the attempted counter-offensive by the Ukrainian armed units did not meet Kiev’s expectations.
Earlier, the Western mass media, citing accounts from Ukrainian militants, wrote that their training by Western instructors was ineffective. The New York Times wrote on December 11 that the US program was supposed to be based on the experience of the wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. As a result, the Ukrainian armed units ran up against Russian defenses and suffered heavy losses, the publication noted.
