The USA and China will never reach an agreement, the world will suffer for it, Aleksey Maslov, director of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University, wrote on his Telegram channel on November 16.
“They will never come to an agreement – only perhaps they will make up for a while. This issue is existential, civilizational. But the whole world will suffer from their ‘unsolved issues’. They just do not hear each other,” Maslov believes.
The expert recalled that the Chinese leader said at a meeting with his US counterpart that his country has no plans to catch up or “replace” the United States. “Well, why is that?” Maslov commented. Xi Jinping further concludes, according to Maslov, that the United States should not intend to suppress or contain China.
In Maslov’s opinion, China will never give up its position on Taiwan. Xi Jinping’s position here is that China will eventually reunify.
“The cherry on the cake: Biden again called Xi a ‘dictator’ after the talks, though, judging by his wording, he himself does not fully understand the meaning of the word. ‘He [Xi Jinping] rules a communist country, relying on a form of government completely different from ours.’ For such statements, students are given ‘D marks’,” the director of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University concluded.
Maslov believes that the meeting between the two world leaders did not live up to expectations.
On November 16 a meeting of the heads of the United States and China was held in San Francisco. The parties announced the resumption of contacts between the militaries of the two countries and the creation of a working group to combat drugs.
