11.11.2023, Moscow.

The IL-76MD-90A (E) strategic and tactical airlifter will be presented at an air show in Dubai, the press service of Rostec Corporation reported on November 10.

According to the press service, the aircraft of this class, designed and produced by Russian aircraft builders, will be demonstrated for the first time since 1994.

The new IL-76-90 is a deep modernization of its progenitor. According to Rostec’s First Deputy Director General Vladimir Artyakov, the wide-body transporter has been upgraded by more than 70% compared to its progenitor.

The modernization fundamentally changed the design of the wing, which made it possible to install new and more powerful PS-90A-76 engines, and also introduced an electronic multifunctional system in the aircraft’s control, changed the landing gear design, and made other improvements.

The airplane is manufactured at Aviastar, Ulyanovsk, and the engine supplier is the Ural Perm Motors plant.

According to open sources, the new IL-76 can carry up to 60 tons of cargo at a distance of up to 4000 km. The maximum flight range is 9,700 kilometers at a cruising speed of up to 850 km/h.

One of the specific features of the heavy carrier is its ability to use unpaved airfields for takeoff and landing, as well as the ability to carry out loading and unloading operations without special equipment.

This and other technical advantages make the newest IL-76 competitive on the international market, Rostec believes.
