The agreement on creating a unified regional air defense system between Russia and Kirgizstan came into force, according to the text of the document published on November 9 on the website of officially published legal acts.
The agreement was signed on August 16, 2022 in Moscow. Both sides ratified the document in October. According to it, the air defense system of the two states will be part of the Commonwealth of Independent States air defense system.
The document envisages the transfer of five hectares of land in Kirgizstan near the Russian airbase in Kant to Russia for temporary use. Coordination of joint actions will be carried out by the commander-in-chief of the Russian Air and Space Forces, and their actions will be managed by the commander of the air defense forces of the Kyrgyz army.
On October 12, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the agreement to create a joint air defense system between Russia and Kyrgyzstan an outstanding achievement.
