The grand opening of the restored bridge in Mariupol near Azovstal, blown up by Ukrainian militants during the fighting for the city, took place in Mariupol. The bridge links the road that leads to Crimea. Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly took part in the event via video link.
According to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, the bridge connects two parts of the city, it is a very important site not only for the city and the republic, but also for the whole country, as it connects the Rostov region with Crimea and is part of the land corridor. According to the head of the region, the bridge, which is located on the federal highway, ensures “the main flow of traffic not only in the city but also interregional traffic.”
The total length of the bridge in Mariupol is 141 meters, its width is 22 meters. The overhaul of the bridge was completed two months ahead of schedule. The bridge will be able to pass 15 thousand vehicles per day, earlier this figure was 5 thousand vehicles per day. That is, the capacity of the bridge has increased three times, said Pushilin.
