The Supreme Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Khalifa Haftar visited Moscow, the LNA press service informed on September 26.
General Haftar, who is also called Field Marshal in his homeland, visited the Russian Defense Ministry, where he held a meeting with the military leadership.
The visit took place at the invitation of the Russian side. Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov was among those who met the Field Marshal at the plane ramp. A military orchestra was also on the runway.
Earlier, the LNA press service indicated that the Field Marshal’s visit to Moscow would be short. The military discussed the possibilities of developing relations between the countries.
Evkurov visited Libya in September. Russian rescuers provided assistance to victims of serious flooding in the eastern Libyan city of Derna. Russian Emergencies Ministry teams were searching for survivors and removing the rubble.
Libyans then visited the Russian EMERCOM camp and thanked the rescuers for their help in eliminating the consequences of the flooding. Yevkurov and Haftar noted not only the work of the rescuers, but also the professionalism of doctors from Russia.
In August, Yevkurov also met with Haftar in the east of Libya in Benghazi.
