The media effect of the destruction of the US Patriot surface-to-air missile system in Kiev by the Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile far exceeds the military significance of this event, according to a summary from the theater of war published in The Essence of Time newspaper, no. 535.
On May 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the radar and launchers of the US Patriot air defense system had been hit and destroyed in Kiev. The strike was carried out using the Kinzhal hypersonic missile. US media reported that Patriot had used up its entire ammunition of 32 interceptor missiles in an attempt to shoot down a Russian missile. But none of them reached the target, unlike the Kinzhal.
“The media effect of the event clearly exceeds its military significance. The praised US Patriots did not hold out against the Kinzhals,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
